Abstract: |
Considering the opening of the Jiaozhou Bay Bridge in June 2011, the ongoing construction of the Russky Island Bridge and the approval of the definition design for the Messina Bridge there seems to be a movement towards longer spans and long bridges. This paper provides an introduction to "longer" - trends and challenges in bridge design and construction. The paper reviews state-of-the- art for long links and long span bridges and outlines aspects for further thoughts with regard to the future development of long links and long span bridges. |
