The contract for the bridge is awarded to Peter Kiewit Sons Co., of Longview, Washington.

21 September 1954

Construction of the Skagit River Bridge begins.

26 August 1956

Construction of the Skagit river crossing is completed.

23 May 2013

For yet unknown causes one of the truss span collapses into the Skagit River with three cars on its roadway. Of the three persons inside the cars none seem seriously injured. Local media reports that a semi-truck with an oversized load may have hit parts of the bridge just prior to collapse.

19 June 2013

With a bailey bridge replacing the collapsed span the Skagit river crossing is opened again to traffic.
