Chronology
11. September 2024, 02:58 | The main span of the westernmost superstructure (part C) carrying the two tramway tracks collapses into the Elbe river. No injuries or fatailties are reported. At the northern pier of the main span, the superstructure is severed directly at the support, on the southern end at a construction joint around the quarter span point. The adjoining spans towards the north begin the deform excessively after the primary collapse. |

Notes
The Carola Bridge consists of three superstructures, which are officially referred to as superstructures A to C. Superstructure A consists of the eastern superstructure (upstream) and carries the northbound carriageway. Superstructure B is the middle one supporting the roadway to the south (city center), while superstructure C, the western box girder (downstream) carries the two streetcar tracks as well as a footpath and cycle path, or did until the collapse on September 11, 2024. The three superstructures are structurally mostly separate, only at some locations are they connected via diaphragms with Gerber saddles, but they do not form a monolithically connected single superstructure.
