Abstract:

Myanmar engineers were first introduced to the technology of the construction of prestressed concrete girder bridges in 1967 when introduced to 30-m-span prestressed concrete girder bridges by Canadian engineers. The Bridge Engineering Training Center Project enabled Myanmar engineers to build the Thuwunna Bridge with a span of around 100 m, albeit under the guidance of the Japanese engineers stationed full-time at the site. The subsequent construction of Ngawun Bridge, with a similar span, provided the opportunity for Myanmar engineers to develop the technology acquired on the Thuwunna Bridge Project.
