Abstract:

Notes on the design of steel corbels

To reinforced concrete structures bolted steel corbels are an alternative to reinforced concrete corbels. The formwork and any transportation costs of the reinforced concrete structure is thereby significantly reduced. Steel corbels are generally much smaller than reinforced concrete corbels or have up to three times higher load capacities.
The design of such structures is, however, more complex. The different components and their connections are to be designed. In this paper notes are given to selected evidence of the web and flange plate. The assumptions made are verified by FE calculations. With the presented calculation methods plastic reserves can be used and hence the construction can be designed more efficiently.
