Abstract: |
Footbridges are often built in sensitive environments. Finding the optimum solution thus requires intensive study of the given conditions and parameters. It is common practice to tender design competitions. Certainly, this is the appropriate method to get a number of designers working on various solutions. However, cost considerations and time constraints are often reasons not to run a competition, since the procedure takes time, funding, and resources. This paper elaborates on how to succeed in developing diversified solutions in cooperation with all parties involved, and on how to identify the ideal solution in a joint decision making process. Furthermore, it outlines the chosen solution - a special cable-stayed bridge - in detail, such as design process, structural analysis and construction. |
