Structural System
The bridge is not technically or in the strictest sense a Fink truss, although it resembles one. The primary difference is that the diagonals are not anchored to the ends of the girders, as would be typical for a Fink truss, but for the Rakaia Gorge Bridge they are directly anchored into the rock at either end of the bridge. The girders are supported on completely independently of the ties on cast iron pedestals.
