Chronology

16 May 1943
— 17 May 1943

During the night, allied bombers hit the dam, destroying it over a length of 77 m and a height of 23 m. A flood wave of 6-7 meters in height ensues as 110 million cubic meters of water spill out destroying the down river Möhne valley and killing 1 200 people. The dam was repaired the same year, though the power house was completely destroyed.
