Replacement of the Hastings Swing Bridge : Construction of a new steel swing bridge to replace the existing structure. The bridge, with a length of 25 meters (82 feet), is located in the village of Hastings, in the Municipality of Trent Hills. The swing bridge is located at Lock 18 on County Road 45 in Hastings, which belongs to the Trent-Severn Waterway. This project required the production of 200 tons of steel components including 186 square meters (2006 square feet) of orthotropic deck. Despite a very tight schedule for installing the components, the project was completed on schedule. An additional challenge was the swaying of the bridge and its new components to an existing pivot.

Remplacement du pont tournant de Hastings : Construction d'un nouveau pont tournant en acier afin de remplacer la structure existante. Le pont, d'une longueur de 25 mètres (82 pieds), est situé dans le village de Hastings, dans la municipalité de Trent Hills. Le pont tournant est situé à l’écluse 18 sur le chemin de comté 45 à Hastings, qui appartient à la voie navigable Trent-Severn. Ce projet a nécessité la fabrication de 200 tonnes de composants en acier dont 186 mètres carrés (2 006 pieds carrés) de tablier orthotrope. Malgré un échéancier très serré pour l'installation des composants, le projet a été complété dans les délais prévus et a permis de rouvrir le pont aux usagers au cours du mois d'avril 2016 et de donner l'accès aux bateaux au début de la période navigable, soit le 15 mai. Un des défis supplémentaires consistait au balancement du pont et de ses nouveaux composants sur un pivot existant.

Hastings Swing Bridge - Time Lapse : AE Bridge Engineers have completed the swing bridge replacement project in the Village of Hastings of Ontario. This bridge is a central fixture within the community and the Trent Severn Waterway. The existing structure was approaching the end of it’s serviceable life and was taken out of service January 4th, 2016. This resulted in a 55km detour for the surrounding communities. AE Bridge Engineers had designed the replacement structure in 2015 in preparation of this replacement. The new bridge was constructed and returned to service just under one month ahead of schedule on April 29th, 2016 to much jubilation and celebration from the surrounding communities. As part of this project AE installed a video camera to record a time lapse video of the construction process and ceremonial opening swing.
