Abstract:

The paper examines uncoated weathering steel as applied to bridge construction. Early experiences with this material indicate that some misunderstandings exist about the specific material properties of weathering steel, which the author seeks to correct. Improved criteria for design, construction and maintenance are presented. Economic and aesthetic aspects of weathering steel for bridge structures are also considered.
