Terzaghi-body. These days the phenomena of hydraulic heave and the way of verification of resistance to failure by hydraulic heave have been discussed on several conferences. This paper gives an overview of model tests beginning with Karl Terzaghi up to today. Different model tests as well as own numerical investigations show that the so called Terzaghi-body is a well-fitting model. It sufficiently describes the phenomena of hydraulic heave in non-cohesive soil and thus normally should be used for the verification of resistance to failure by hydraulic heave. Only for cohesive soils or special conditions like surcharge filters and bleeder wells more detailed models and methods should be applied.
