Abstract: |
The Reißeck II pumped storage power station being constructed for the Verbund Hydro Power AG is a current extension project in the south of Austria. With an extended capacity of 430 MW in generation and pumping modes, the efficiency of the entire pumped storage scheme will be increased by up to 40%. One advantage is that many parts of the existing system (reservoirs, headrace tunnel, infrastructure) can be used and do not have to be newly constructed. Both, mechanical and conventional tunnelling, methods are being used to overcome the height difference of just 600 m. The power station will be entirely housed underground and should enter full service in September 2014 at a cost of 385 mio Euro. The main works has been under construction since June 2010 by a joint venture of Hinteregger, Östu-Stettin, Porr and Swietelsky. |
