Abstract:

The Bukit Panjang Light Rapid Transit (LRT) system is a design-and-build project under construction in Singapore. The LRT system has been designed to blend in with the residential areas located in the northwest part of Singapore and to serve as a feeder to the existing heavy rail network. A prime objective has been to ensure that station access for every passenger in the catchment areas does not exceed 500 m walking distance. The main civil engineering elements of the project consist of 8 km of twin-track elevated concrete guideway, 13 stations and a maintenance depot. Precast prestressed concrete segmental box girders with glued joints and internally prestressed tendons have been adopted as the main structural form for the guideway superstructure.
