Abstract:

Innovative membrane stadia roofs in Kiev, Warsaw and Vancouver.

Due to improved comfort levels and FIFA requirements, most new or rebuilt stadia in the world have their seats covered by a roof. This protection against weathering also significantly influences the indoor light situation. Adequate natural light levels are an important condition for the lawn to grow but also reduce visitor's aggression potential and - of most importance - are the key to high quality television images in connection with a column-free space. Here, membrane materials show their key advantages: very large column-free span width and very even and low-contrast light distribution through highly diffusing translucent textiles and foils.
