Abstract:

Skyward - Buildings and Visions of the Highrise City Frankfurt since 1945.

No other city in Germany offers such an exciting skyscraper backdrop like the banking metropolis of Frankfurt am Main, "analogous to the Frankfurt Mainhattan skyline downtown New York often is referred as Manhattan". This apt quip of the writer Andreas Neumeister illustrates the urban, the architectural but also the constructional importance of the Hessian skyscraper ensemble. In addition to the view from outside to the about 530 high-rise buildings of the city, the exhibition of the Deutsches Architekturmuseum in Frankfurt am Main explores political and social as well as architectural backgrounds and developments. The exhibition "Skyward - Highrise City Frankfurt" is open till April 19, 2015.
