Abstract:

The local transport hub including a tram tunnel under the Linz main station was constructed from 2001 to 2004 as part of the intensive improvement of public transport in the city. As a logical extension of this project, tramline 3 belonging to Linz Linien GmbH was extended to the so-called Harter Plateau with a total length of 5.3 km. The route runs underground for a length of 1.3 km, mostly under the tracks of the Linz main station. The surface route connects the town of Leonding to the southwest of Linz, with eight new stops. The main emphasis of this article is the underground tunnel sections.
