Abstract:

Pedestrian Bridges

Pedestrian Bridges are preliminary functional, but they should also respond to the special features of their sites, route trajectories, topography and contexts. Their presence in public spaces offers an opportunity not only to connect separate areas with each other, but also to confer a unique identity on the immediate environment. Within the last decades several new pedestrian bridges established the new genre of pedestrian bridges with spectacular structures.
Built at different places, in cities, parks and in the countryside, on roads, railways, rivers and ravines, they surprise you with special designs, high amenity value and often also by their shape. This article gives a brief overview of this development, including the main design parameters of various types of construction and current examples.
