Abstract: |
Peace bridge for Lyon. The 220 m long pedestrian bridge in Lyon spans in a smooth way over the 160 m wide river Rhône. The elements of the three-chord truss alter their position along the bridge and create a flat, wide V in the middle of the bridge. The steel structure is covered with light wooden planks. Through minimization of the elements maximum transparency is achieved. Between the direct connection straight to both city parts stairs are leading to the path along the shore, attached to each side of the bridge along the side of the three-chord truss. Together with the architects DFA Dietmar Feichtinger Architectes, Paris, and the support of the client GRAND LYON, this technically challenging bridge design could be realized and adapted to local conditions. The following text provides details about the design idea, design and structural analysis, as well as an overview of assembly and erection of the bridge. |
