Abstract: This article outlines the structural design approach used for the Brock Commons Student Residence project, an 18 storey wooden building at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. When completed in summer 2017, it will be the tallest wooden building in the world at 53 m high. The building features 17 storeys of cross-laminated timber on glulam columns, unique column-to-column steel connections and two concrete cores for lateral stability.
