Abstract:

Direct calculation of the required length of restraint for steel columns in concrete constructions.

For the calculation of the load carrying capacity of steel columns in concrete foundations several calculation models exist. Until now, these calculation models are based on national standards (e. g. DIN 18800 [1]; DIN 1045 [2]), whereas these standards will be replaced by European standards in 2012. This paper shows a calculation model based on the Eurocode refining the methods of Kindmann and Laumann [3]. The minimum length of restraint can be calculated directly for rolled I-sections considering bending about the strong axis (y-y) with compression normal force.
