Abstract: |
Contribution to a partial safety factor for water pressureDue to the change of structural engineering codes to the partial safety concept of the Eurocodes the partial safety factor of water has been investigated and derived for the revision of DIN 19702. Water is a specific, usually varying key action for hydraulic structures, but sometimes also for geotechnical structures, and differs from typical variable actions such as traffic loads or climatic loads such as wind and snow. Water pressure is a function of the water level, the fluctuations means the actual uncertainty, which is imaged by a statistically extreme value distributions. The probabilistic analysis of typical water levels led to generalized determination of partial safety factors for a unfavorable varying water pressure influences within DIN 19702, but also for evaluating water as a quasi-permanent action. In addition, the mechanical understanding of the action effect of water pressure is discussed and might be used, where appropriate, for a realistic effect analysis for structural design. |
