Abstract:

An alternative calculation approach for high frequency peening - further validation and practical application in wind energy technology.

A local application of post weld treatment shows a high potential in increasing fatigue life and more economic manufacturing of welded components. An alternative assessment based on fracture mechanics is presented which takes into account the main effects of high frequency peening. Furthermore results of a fatigue test on a cross-joint K-butt weld with 60?mm thickness are presented. Also because of positive experiences in field application of high frequency peening on different components in wind energy converters this kind of post weld treatment will be a very promising technique in future.
