Abstract: |
This paper outlines the development of the design of Greenwich Reach Swing Bridge through the UK planning process, showing the various suggested concepts for the structure, before outlining the design development leading to the final scheme. The final design consists of a cable stayed swing bridge, fabricated from painted weathering steel. Additionally, the paper outlines issues experienced with unexpected potential vortex-induced vibration in the mast observed during wind tunnel testing, and describes the mitigation solutions considered and adopted. |
