Abstract:

In this study, the stiffness and strength of a simple joint system for grid-shell roofs with cylindrical nodes were analyzed and the effects of the stiffness and strength of the joints on detailed roof structures was investigated. First, the stiffness and strength of the joints are determined by performing experiments. Then, the system is used to construct a small glass roof, and the stiffness is determined by carrying out microtremor measurements. On the basis of these results, the effects of joint stiffness on the buckling strength and seismic responses of grid-shell domes with 40-m are analyzed.
