Chronology

1922

David B. Steinman, as a young engineer, is called by West Penn to recommend repairs to the span after the top chord broke in two places under the weight of freight streetcars. He redesigns the suspension span to accomodate heavier loads.

1941

The State of West Virigina purchases the bridge. Rehabilitation of the towers and reconstruction of the deck flooring.

1953

Tolls are removed.

Today

The bridge connects downtown Steubenville, Ohio with State Route 2 in West Virginia, and it carries a 5 ton load limit for vehicles.
