Abstract:

Influence of grouting of the prestressing tendon on structural concrete

For containment buildings of nuclear power plants, prestressed concrete with unbonded tendons is generally used. For protecting it, a grout that has been previously tested is used. These tests show that there are no interaction problems with the steel and concrete. On the other hand, the ducts are not totally impermeable and consequently, a stain could be produced on the external wall of the containment if the grout finds a way out (for example, through cracks produced by shrinkage). This has occurred in the containment groups I and II of the Ascó Nuclear Power Plant. The objetive of this paper is to present the results of studies to demonstrate the sources of the cracking that has occurred in the structure and to analyze the influence of the grouting on the structural concrete of these buildings.
