Abstract:

Extended model to calculate the crack width

The calculation of the crack widths is a main task within the design of reinforced concrete structures in order to secure the serviceability and the durability. In the following a new, practical model for the calculation of the characteristic crack width is presented, which is based on general mechanical relationships and determines the characteristic crack spacing and the associated characteristic strains with a consistent, bond-oriented methodology. The calculation formulas were determined in an extensive parameter study so that the new calculation model improves the approach of the EC2/NA [2] or DIN 1045-1 [10] in terms of bond specifics and crack mechanics and extends the application range in the practical use.
