Yacyretá Dam

Argentine-Paraguayan Protocol regarding the use of the Waterfalls at Apipé is signed in Washington (U.S.).

An agreement is reached between the Argentine and Paraguayan Republics regarding the study of the exploitation of the Paraná River near the islands of Yacyretá and Apipé. The Mixed Argentine-Paraguayan Technical Commission is established.

Treaty of Yacyretá is signed in Asunción, Paraguay. It is agreed that both counties will jointly construct a work with several purposes: the hydroelectric exploitation of the Paraná River at the island of Yacyretá, the increased navigability of the area, and the regulation of the river's flow, when necessary, to decrease the effects of flooding at times when the river's banks increase to extraordinary levels.
With this goal in mind, they decide to create the same conditions for both parts, a Bi-National Organization named Yacyretá. This organization is assigned the judicial capacity and the technical responsibility of carrying out the studies and projects of the fore-mentioned works. As a single technical-economic unit, it will also direct, execute, and take advantage of the works once they are underway.

Final and definitive plans for the works are signed in Ituzaingó, Argentina. These works are for the protection of the valleys along the main tributaries feeding the reservoir along the right margin (Paraguay).

The first turbine is made functional, so beginning the generation of energy.

The twentieth and final turbine of the work is set into motion.
