Chronology
| 1632 — 1667 | Reign of Emperor Fasilides under which the bridge is built. |

| 1908 | Repaired by Emperor Menelik II. |
| 1936 | Middle arch of the bridge is destroyed by Ethiopian patriots to hinder the Italian invasion of Ethiopia. Farming plows were used to demolish parts of bridge which eventually collapsed, killing 40 persons including the resistance leader, Fitaurari Tamrit. No significant repairs were undertaken afterwards, temporary crossing was on wooden logs and beams or by ropes. |
| 23 February 2002 | Bridges to Prosperity builds a metal truss bridge to span over the 12-meter gap of the missing arch. After 10 days of construction, the bridge is inaugurated. |
