Chronology

February 1911

Prime Minister Joseph Ward announces a competition for designs for a new parliament building after the old wooden structure had burnt down in 1907. Amongst 37 entries, the winning design by Government Architect John Campell is selected by Colonel Vernon, former Government Architect for New South Wales. Another entry by Campbell wins fourth place and the current design is a combination of both.
