Notes
The cost of this bridge was £43,500 which was much higher than that of the cast iron Mythe Bridge (also designed by Thomas Telford and completed shortly before Over Bridge), but the local council preferred a stone bridge to an iron one.
The central portion of the bridge dropped about 10 inches during construction because the foundations were not as stable as Telford had expected.
The bridge used to carry the main London to Fishguard road, but traffic was transferred to a new bridge in 1975 and the old bridge is now in the care of English Heritage.
