Chronology
October 1956 | Due to completion of The Dalles Dam operations begin to raise the entire bridge by about 1.5 meters (5 feet). The swing span is locked in place and is no longer operational since. |

21 June 1957 | The raised structure's lift span is successfully raised and lowered for the first time. Rail operations resume on the bridge the following day. |
