Chronology
September 2002 | In two 24-hour periods where train traffic is completely stopped on that part of the railroad line, a precast span is transported to the site and suspended above the existing steel span using special transport bogies and DYWIDAG prestressing bars. The rails are cut at each end of span and the existing span below is then attached to the precast span using prestressing bars. The steel part is cut into three parts to be able to lower it onto a barge. As the new deck is shallower, the supports are heightened and then the new span is lowered into its final position. Railroad traffic is resumed after ballast and rails are put in place. This procedure was done for each span. |
