2005 | A single-tower cable-stayed bridge design by Christian Menn is chosen by a US/Canadian jury in an international competition. |

2008 | Menn's original design is abandoned after environmental concerns over the threat of migratory birds colliding with the bridge cables. |
December 2009 | Five revised designs developed by Menn and Figg Engineering in cooperation with avian experts Terry Yonkers and Michael Morgante are presented. |
