Chronology
| 3 October 2021 | The fourth span from the left bank, the center span, collapses suddenly. The collapse disrupts the supply of fresh water to around 60.000 households or 40% of the city of Wakayama. The next day, the households begin to be supplied with emergency water through water tankers and other means. Later investigations show that four of the suspenders between the arches and the pipes of that span had correded and broken as early as December 2020. |

A bypass for the water pipeline is built on Rokujutani Bridge, a road bridge which is closed to traffic for this purpose. |
| 2022 | The collapsed span and the adjacent ones are replaced to repair the water pipeline. The bypass is removed and Rokujutani Bridge reopened to road traffic by 10 June 2022. |
