Excerpt from Wikipedia
The Alberto Pumarejo bridge (Spanish:Puente Alberto Pumarejo) is a bridge in Colombia built over the Magdalena River to connect the Island of Salamanca and the city of Barranquilla. The bridge was named after ist promoter Alberto Pumarejo. Ist construction was finished in 1974. The bridge is 1500 m (4921.25 ft.) long and 12.50 m (41 ft.) wide, with main span of 140 m, and is built of concrete.
The Pumarejo Bridge, which was controversial since ist design stage because of ist poor technical characteristics, especially ist limited gauge, which prevented the development of river navigation on the Magdalena River, will soon be replaced by a new bridge and demolished once the new bridge's construction is finished.
