Chronology
1993 | The Las Vegas Monorail System begins as an early transit venture between MGM Grand and Bally's Hotels. That year the two casinos announce to build a mile-long monorail under the franchise MGM Grand/Bally's, LLC to connect the two properties. An extension is already envisioned. |

January 1997 | State legislation is passed allowing Clark County to grant a public monorail franchise to the private sector. |
May 2000 | The Las Vegas Monorail company is created and becomes owner of the new system through acquisition of MGM's-Bally's Monorail, LLC. Transit System Management is created by MGM/Mirage and Park Place Entertainment and is responsible for overseeing and managing the design and day-to-day operations of the monorail. |
16 August 2001 | Official groundbreaking for the extension of the MGM Grand/Bally's line and the Sahara Hotel and Casino. |
20 January 2004 | Expected opening of the 7 station system (including the original MGM Grand/Bally's section). |
June 2004 | Expected groundbreaking for a 2.3 mile extension to Fremont Street Experience in Downtown Las Vegas. |
2007 | Expected opening of the extension to Fremont Street. |
Notes
The system consists of a dual parallel guideway track made of percast, prestressed concrete beams.
