Chronology
27 August 2016 | A lorry - or the cargo loaded onto it - hits the superstructure of the footbridge. The impact moves the section supported on bearings off the pier which then collapses onto the southern carriageway. The balanced cantilever section which spans nearly the entire other carriageway remains unscathed and stable The accident causes no serious injury. The remaining structure, though safe and structurally stable as a balanced cantilever, causes unease among drivers, unnecessarily fueled by social media. It is subsequently also demolished as well the following weekend . |
