Chronology

11 September 2001

The station is severely damaged in the collapse of the World Trade Center causing the structure of the station and adjoining tunnels to cave in. To quickly restore service afterwards, the remainder of the station is demolished and the platforms replaced with walls.

15 September 2002

The line reopens while Cortland Street station remains closed.
