22 February 2011 | The building suffers significant damage during the 2011 Christchurch earthquake. |

22 November 2012 | The Christchurch City Council unanimously votes to rebuild the Town Hall at an expected cost of NZ$ 127.5 million of which 68.9 million are covered by insurance. |
11 June 2015 | The city council decides to go forward with the repairs to the building. |
November 2015 | The works to repair the building begin with an expected completion by mid-2018. |
