Chronology
12 May 2008, 14:28 | A 8.0 magnitude (Richter scale) earthquake strikes the Wenchuan area of Sichuan province. The bridge is severely damaged in the tremor and a 100-m long section (no. 5) collapses entirely. Many piers have plastic hinge failure at the bases. |

28 May 2008 | Due to the extensive damage the entire bridge is demolished by blasting. |
