National Jamboree Construction Update | CONSOL Energy Bridge | Summit Bechtel Reserve : Need jamboree info? Go to http://bsajamboree.org Good weather and strong teamwork has resulted in lots of construction progress on the CONSOL Energy wingtip bridge. We've got rebar and concrete in the abutments as well as substantial progress on the pier and masts. This stuff isn't easy. As the concrete gets poured here at the Summit, we have to make sure that it's meeting the strength requirements of the design. The testing process is pretty cool. Each truck gets tested. So, our engineers grab a few cylinders of concrete from every batch, and cure them individually. Then (the fun part) we get to break each one as they've cured for different periods of time. If they don't pass the cure test, we go back for a new batch of concrete. We're also drilling holes for the anchors. The concrete has to all the way down into the hole; 133 feet! All this work is adding up to one really impressive bridge. The Wingtip Bridge will be a showpiece in the 2013 National Jamboree, and at the Summit for generations to come.

The CONSOL Energy Wing Tip Bridge at The Summit : For more on this major feat and some bonus content to go along with it, be sure to head to the Summit Blog http://ow.ly/5Tl3n. The CONSOL Energy Bridge in The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve will be a 700 foot long span that rises 200 feet over a giant ravine. The bridge is designed for foot traffic, but when we're talking about The Summit, there's always something more. In this case, the design of the bridge will incorporate 3 separate walkways; one main span, and two side-walkways that will take Scouts both above and below the main passage. Scouts will use the bridge to move from the main activity area in The Summit to the eastern side of the Reserve. There will also be trails along the creek bed beneath the bridge, more than 9 stories below. When complete, the bridge and surrounding area will be one of the highlights and main focus points of the experience of Scouts that come to The Summit. The Bridge is made possible by a $15 million donation by CONSOL Energy. Planning and construction for the bridge is happening simultaneously with other exciting developments at The Summit, in preparation for the 2013 National Scout Jamboree.
