Inspection of historical railway viaduct in Rendsburg, Germany

An overdue inspection of the railway viaduct in Rendsburg has been carried out with a WEMO-tec road-rail MBL 1.600T unit. The soffit and the steel lattice framework of Rendsburg viaduct were successfully inspected at a height of about 16 m. Characteristic was the "rolling inspection”, with no additional struts proving necessary. The consulting engineers responsible were convinced of the advantages of this unit compared to units such as Unimog. They will stay in contact with WEMO-tec for future projects.

The Rendsburg viaduct was built between 1911 and 1913. It spans the Kiel Canal and is used as a railway bridge for the Neumünster–Flensburg–Fredericia (Denmark) line. A transporter bridge, installed on long cables suspended below the soffit, ferries vehicles and passengers from one side to the other. This transporter bridge has been declared a listed monument.
