Born in the 13th century, probably at Honnecourt-sur-l'Escault, no structure can definitely be attributed to Villard de Honnecourt. He has become famous for an album of sketches showing architecture and sculpture that is unique for his time. This album is now conserved at the Bilbliothèque Nationale de France in Paris. In it Honnecourt draws plans of churches and even a wooden bridge made of prefabricated elements.
