Born in 1828
Deceased in 1883

Notes & Comments

Georges Martin (1828-83), younger son of Émile Martin (1794-1871) and brother of Pierre-Émile Martin (1824-1915). Seems never to have finished an engineering education like his brother did, but worked for the family construction company branch as site engineer on bridges c.1858-1867:

  • Pont de Solférino 1858-59
  • Pont de l'Île St. Louis 1862
  • Pont El Kantara 1861-63
  • Pont Oued-el-Hammam 1867.

Otherwise amateur photographer, who photographed the construction process (one of the earliest such photographic series) of his El-Kantara bridge using two cameras, influenced by, and alongside the German-French pioneering photographer Édouard Baldus (1813-89).
