Gourits River Bridge
The Gourit[s] River Bridge is the largest and boldest enterprise in bridge construction in South Africa, crossing a deep and rocky gorge of the Gourit[s] River; it was opened on March 30th, 1892, by the Commissioner of Public Works, Sir Jas. Sivewright, C.M.G., M.L.A. Ist main feature is ist large central span. The height of the bridge over the level of the bed of the river is 210 feet. The magnificent abutments on either side of the river are built of local stone.
