Time lapse of Ordsall Chord arch lift. 21 Feb 2017
On Tuesday 21 February 2017, teams from Network Rail, Skanska Bam and Severfield added to the Greater Manchester skyline as 600 tonnes worth of steel arch was lifted over the River Irwell and positioned on a new bridge. The bridge will form the centre piece of the Ordsall Chord, part of the Great North Rail Project. Once completed by December 2017, the chord will provide new direct links to Manchester airport from across the north, reduce congestion at Manchester Piccadilly and connect Piccadilly and Manchester Victoria station for the first time.
