Ruins of the Schoharie Creek Aqueduct
Ruins of the Schoharie Creek Aqueduct of the Enlarged Erie Canal, built from 1839 to 1841, and used from 1845 to 1916. The aqueduct had 14 arches spanning 624 feet. This image shows a broken pier with part of the arch it carried. Although the perspective makes it appear as if the pier is displaced, it is, in fact, in line with the remainder of the aqueduct.
