Abstract:

Double faced brickwork (cavity brick construction): Comment on the DIN 18195 Supplement 1.

The article deals with wall drawings for socket proofing of double facing brickwork that are illustrated in the DIN 18195 Supplement 1, March 2011. The requirements for the "drainage" of double-wall masonry written down in the DIN 18195 part 4 and part 9 as well as in the supplement 1 to the DIN 18195 are based on the regulations from the masonry standard DIN 1053-1. The requirements for "dewatering" of two shells brickwork in the DIN 1053-1 do not correspond to the proven principle of this building method and are therefore no longer available in the new German masonry standard DIN EN 1996-2/NA. Against this background, the requirements on "dewatering" expressed in the DIN 18195-4, DIN 18195-9 and DIN 18195 Supplement 1 also need to be corrected and adapted to the current state of the art.
