Abstract:

Verification of the fatigue limit state of gust induced structural response of tower constructions.

Tower structures made of steel, show often stress cycle amplitudes due to the wind loading, which cannot be treated by quasi-static models anymore for economic reasons. In the present paper a methodology is described which allows for a detailed verification of the fatigue limit state, using a realistic stress cycle count distribution. Due to the analytical formulation of the approach, it is possible to consider nonsteady load admittance relations, which are present in e. g. in case of wind turbines or structures with cylindrical cross-sections with a low computational effort, compared to transient methods. Besides a practical concept for the verification of simple structures, the advantages of the method are shown exemplary using the example of a wind turbine with lattice tower. The shown examples emphasize the usability for structural problems.
